Big Rock’s Acupuncture Services and Philosophy

At Big Rock, we believe in the power of personalized care - knowing this we are proud to offer Acupuncture services as an addition to our existing modalities. We understand that optimal health requires addressing both acute symptoms and their underlying causes. Our practitioners are extensively trained in both TCM's systematic diagnostic methods and Five Element theory's constitutional approach, enabling us to craft treatment strategies that deliver both immediate relief and long-term wellness solutions.

The Big Rock difference lies in our ability to seamlessly integrate these two powerful healing traditions, along with our other modalities, offering our clients the best of both worlds. Whether you're seeking relief from chronic conditions, managing stress and anxiety, or pursuing optimal wellness, our expert team always provides the highest level of care to our valued clients.

What’s Included In Your Initial Acupuncture Appointment?

  • Health History Intake: Learning about your overall health, lifestyle, diet, exercise habits, sleep, stress levels, and any medications or supplements you're taking.

  • Discussion of Main Concerns: Your primary reason for seeking acupuncture treatment.

  • Pulse and Tongue Diagnosis: If appropriate - Assessing pulse and tongue as these are essential diagnostic areas in TCM.

  • Physical Assessment: We will assess posture, movement, or muscle tension to understand areas of imbalance.

  • Treatment Plan Development: Based on your intake and the initial assessment, the acupuncturist will explain a personalized treatment plan.

  • Initial Acupuncture Treatment: If time allows, they may proceed with a first session, inserting very thin, sterilized needles into specific points on your body. The needles will be left in place for 20–30 minutes.

  • Post-Treatment Guidance: After the session, they’ll provide advice on aftercare, such as staying hydrated, avoiding vigorous activities, or being mindful of how you feel as your body adjusts.

What’s Included In Your Follow Up Acupuncture Sessions?

  • Acupuncture Needling: During follow-up sessions, the acupuncturist may focus on specific acupuncture points based on how your body responded to previous treatments.

  • Cupping Therapy: This involves placing cups on the skin to create suction, which promotes blood flow, relieves muscle tension, and enhances circulation.

  • Moxibustion (Heat Therapy): Moxibustion involves burning dried mugwort (moxa) near specific acupuncture points or on needles to generate heat and stimulate circulation. It’s often used to address issues like coldness, stiffness, and fatigue, and can be especially helpful for joint pain and digestive issues.

  • Electroacupuncture: In this technique, a mild electric current is passed through the needles to intensify the stimulation at specific points. This approach is particularly useful for treating chronic pain, nerve conditions, and muscle spasms.

  • Dietary and Lifestyle Guidance: Based on your ongoing needs, the acupuncturist may suggest dietary changes or lifestyle adjustments to support your health goals, based on Traditional Chinese Medicine philosophy and teachings.
